Fiordland Regional Information

Situated on the south-west coast of the South Island, Fiordland incorporates Doubtful Sound, Te Anau and Milford Sound.

Known both locally and internationally for its dramatic landforms, the region is home to the Fiordland National Park, which can be explored by foot, sea kayak, boat or plane. Walking and hiking enthusiasts are drawn to the region's walking tracks, including the popular Milford, Kepler, Hollyford and Routeburn tracks.

In Maori legend, the demi-god Tute Rakiwhanoa is said to have carved Firodland's landscape from formless rock, leaving what is today a powerful combination of waterfalls, fiords, rainforest, lakes and granite peaks.
