North Shore Regional Information

Auckland's North Shore enjoys a warm climate, beaches and beautiful natural scenery, all within easy reach of Auckland City by either ferry or car. The region boasts an enviable natural environment, with close to 150 kilometres of coastline and more than 400 parks and walkways taking visitors through native bush environs. The North Shore is perhaps best known for its sunny east coast beaches, many of which are connected by a coastal walkway.

Takapuna is the main business and retail centre in the area, offering fine restaurant and cafe dining, theatre performances and other entertainment options. Takapuna Beach, one of Auckland's most popular beaches, provides the setting for swimming, jet skiing, and sailing or cruising on the waters of the Hauraki Gulf. The historic Pumphouse Theatre, on the shores of Lake Pupuke, is a premier performing and visual arts venue.

Smaller centres on the North Shore include Devonport, Northcote and Birkenhead. Devonport is a picturesque township featuring many heritage buildings, galleries, craft shops and fine restaurants. Northcote and Birkenhead are suburban centres, both with a quiet, quaint charm and a number of arts and crafts galleries.
